Our Services

RMS Film Production specializes in Film Productions On-Board Cruise Ships and Island Excursions.

RMS Film Production specializes in all aspects of filming commercials both on and off cruise ships which includes the filming of excursions.  Based on years of experience, in order to create a successful film project on board a cruise ship, the following services are offered below:

Logistics

Logistics is the heart of the matter when it comes to preparing a film project.  In order to ensure this, the following services are offered:

  • Great relationships with Customs and Border Patrol Offices, (TWIC Card holder), in regards to creating and approval of manifests for equipment.
  • Years of experience working with the Port Authorities when it comes to the transportation, loading, and unloading of equipment at the port.
  • The accommodations of out of town cast and crew with respect to hotels and transportation to the port.
  • Experience working with equipment vendors, both local and out of state.

Experienced Crew Hiring

In managing more than 40 cruise commercial film shoots over the past 20 years, it has become evident to have a successful shoot, one must have an experienced crew.

  • Film crew members understand and are respectful to the ship’s hierarchical structure as well as all guests to alleviate any inconveniences or complaints.
  • Experienced crew members order the proper equipment with the understanding of spatial limitations on cruise ships.
  • The hiring of crew members with the proper knowledge of the procedures and protocols of ships.
  • Adhere to safe operations and movement of equipment while filming on board ships.

Customs & Border Patrol

What makes production on cruise ships unique from “normal” productions is the need to have a command of the ever-changing Customs Procedures which includes;

  • Comprehensive familiarization with manifests and other shipping documents.
  • Expediting the procedure for acquiring the proper registration stamps needed for equipment approval.
  • Understanding the documentation process needed for foreign ports.
  • Ensuring proper documentation for all cast and crew for boarding the ship as well as entering foreign ports.

Local Port Activities

Having an understanding of the complexities that exist on the port helps to alleviate what can be a challenging endeavor.

  • The ability to expedite the embarkation and debarkation process when it comes to the crew.
  • The strong working relationship with the Port Authority and ship’s port agent to ensure the timely loading and unloading of equipment.
  • Understanding of the process to get vehicles cleared and in proper position on the port for the loading and unloading of equipment.
  • A healthy and cohesive working relationship with the longshoremen which helps expedite the movement of equipment.

Coordinating with Ship's Operations

Ships’ operations are unique on each cruise ship, therefore it is vital to have an understanding of each cruise line to avoid any deterrents to the filming process by:

  • Understanding the requirements of the ship in regards to loading and storing equipment.
  • Working with the ship’s guest relations in order to disseminate proper information to the cast and crew.
  • Coordination of the daily film schedule along with the ship’s daily schedule of events.
  • Having a constant communication with ship’s staff.

Foreign Ports of Call and Excursions

It can be a very difficult and stressful time while at foreign ports of call or when disembarking the ship to film excursions, but due to all my years of experience as well as a vast array of contacts, RMS handles all the steps needed in the process to create a successful shoot.

  • Film Permits may be required for filming at ports of call as well as other locations on the islands.
  • Equipment manifests are required by the Port Authorities and the local Customs office at the port for filming to proceed.
  • Passenger manifests are also required for cast & crew members that are disembarking the ship in order to film at the port or on excursions.
  • During the pre-production stage of the film shoot, RMS contacts and works with the local production support on the island to help ensure a successful shoot while on the excursion.

CEO

Upon completing my Business Degree at Florida State University, I was able to combine two of my favorite interests, which are traveling and communicating with people.  I started working as a telecommunications analyst for reservations sales and marketing first with Pan American World Airways through the 80’s and then at Delta Air Lines through the 90’s.

As the Software Industry began to expand enormously in the late 90’s, I left the airlines industry to work for several software companies once again as a Telecommunications Manager, developer and trainer.  After doing that for several years, I transitioned into the Film Industry.

It’s now been over 25 years since I have worked in the Film Industry as a Production Manager, Coordinator, and Art Coordinator on more than 400 TV Commercials and music videos.  Within the wide spectrum of production, my natural interests in travel and communicating with people, and technology, had led me into specializing in organizing cruise film projects and commercials with cruise lines such as; Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and MSC Cruises.
